Some accounts are being wrongfully banned from Instagram. Apparently, these bans may be related to the use of AI for content moderation.

Reports have come from users on various social media platforms, including Reddit and X (formerly Twitter). Content creators reported having their accounts banned unfairly, causing them to lose their sources of income.
Some users also revealed that their attempts to regain access have been unsuccessful. According to them, they received no response when trying to contact Meta‘s support.
“I’ve submitted several appeals, sent my ID, and tried contacting Meta through all official channels, but I was completely ignored. It feels like I’m shouting into the void,” wrote one Reddit user.
The main suspicion behind the wrongful bans is the use of artificial intelligence to monitor content. AI failures may have led to incorrect flagging of content deemed inappropriate for the platform.
In response, users created a petition on Change.org to protest against the use of AI in Instagram‘s content moderation. So far, the page has received over 4,000 signatures.
“Users are being prevented from accessing their personal memories, messages, and business profiles – often with no explanation and no functional way to appeal,” states the petition page.
